City and Town Preservation Plans
A preservation plan offers a comprehensive evaluation of historic preservation in a community. With a focus on the future, the plan considers how the community can grow, adapt and thrive, all while maintaining those historic aspects that make the community a unique and desirable place to live, work and visit. For local preservation commissions, preservation plans help establish and prioritize goals, stay on track, and most importantly, be efficient and effective in their tasks. While a preservation plan reviews the status of historic resources throughout the city or town, it also listens carefully to the community. Through various meetings with stakeholders, a preservation plan responds with customized recommendations based on what was heard and how the community envisions their future. A historic preservation plan is a proactive, collaborative approach to finding common ground and shared goals.
